Annabel Lee Art

Illustration, Portraiture, Teaching, Set and Costume Design

Welcome to my website

I grew up in Lincoln, trained at Wimbledon School of Art (Theatre Design) and have worked in a variety of disciplines throughout my career.

As a theatre set and costume designer, I worked with a range of companies including Monstrous Regiment, Drama Centre London, Gay Sweatshop, The Sphinx and Clean Break. In opera, my principal collaboration was with English Pocket Opera Company designing more than 20 operas.

As a teacher, I work with adults and children and have worked as a visiting tutor at Camberwell College of Art, London College of Fashion, Drama Centre (London), Queen Mary College (London University), and Rose Bruford College.

As a book illustrator, I work regularly with food writer Bee Wilson and illustrated her three most recent books Consider the Fork (Penguin), First Bite (Basic Books and Fourth Estate) and The Way we Eat Now (Harper Collins and Basic Books). I am also the illustrator for TastEd, an educational programme for schools and nurseries that designs and delivers fun sensory food lessons based on the Sapere method.

I live in Cambridge, have two children and during the Covid crisis painted pictures of 26 cats - one for each letter in the alphabet - as part of my latest project Alphacats.
